Shelley Jefts has been famous up to date even after her death, thanks to her ex-husband Gregory LeNoir Allman. Gregory, professionally known as Gregg Allman, was an American singer and songwriter who performed with Allman Brothers Band.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Shelley Jefts married Gregg Allman in 1971, and they were blessed with one child, Devon Allman. However, they separated in 1972; at the time, their son was just an infant. Shelley raised her son by herself in Corpus Christ, Texas, and Tennessee before moving to St. Louis, Missouri.

After divorcing Gregg Allman, Shelley Jefts met Duane R Jefts, who she married in 1982 in Texas. She had one child with Duane, a daughter named Katy Lauren Jefts.

Her Ex-Husband

While growing up, Shelley Jefts’s husband was interested in music, and when his older brother Duane Allman called him and asked him to join the Allman Brothers Band, he greatly accepted. Gregg and his band succeeded with their fourth album, Brothers and Sisters, which was released in 1973.

Shelley Jefts’s ex-husband also performed as a solo artist using a guitar and a Hammond organ. Gregg had a uniquely soulful voice and was often considered the pioneer of Southern rock. He won several accolades for his great music as a solo artist and band member, including a Grammy Award.

Gregg was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Her Ex-Husband’s Romantic Relationships and Death

Gregg Allman was married seven times, with the unions producing five children. He was married to singer Cher but divorced after spending three years together. Shelley’s ex-husband was in a marriage with Shannon Williams at the time of his death.

In his last days, Gregg’s health started taking a toll on him; however, he never wanted to stop performing and making music. His liver cancer reoccurred, and he was also diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Shelley’s ex-husband was warned to reduce his music performance and give his body some rest.

Gregg succumbed to liver cancer complications on May 27, 2017, at his home in Richmond Hill. He was laid to rest beside his brother Duane at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Her Son’s Relationship with Her Ex-Husband

Given that Shelly and Gregg divorced when their son Devon was barely a year, he did not get to see much of his father. He met him when he was a teenager and rekindled their bond. Shelley’s son used to look up to his father and wished that someday he would be a music star, just like his father.

Devon and his father were very close, but Devon did not want to ride on his father’s fame and rise into a star in his music career. He distanced himself from his father and chose a different music style. After his father died, Devon said that his father left a legacy and that his music would last forever.

Death

Shelley Jefts died in 2016, aged 66. Her family members did not mention the cause of her death. Shelley’s body was cremated, and her family kept her ashes.
